Heisman Watch list

1) Bryce Love, HB, Stanford, Sr., 5-10, 202 = After Christian McCaffery left people thought that the Cardinals would stumble a bit, but Love proved them wrong. He broke the school record for yards in a game against UCLA, then broke it again against Arizona State. Injuries slowed down the end of his season but he still amassed 2,118 yards with 19 Tds. He’s got a strong OLine in front of him, and a Coach that likes to throw in Tight Ends who not only can catch but can block as well. If Love can stay healthy for the whole season it wouldn’t be a shock if all single season NCAA football rushing records are within his reach.
2) Jonathan Taylor, HB, Wisconsin, So, 5-11, 214 = What a difference a year makes, this time last year Taylor was a Freshman who had just changed his commit from some Div.-II school after being shocked with an offer to Wisconsin. Then the truth freshman beat out all comers and 1,977 yards, and 13 tds later with a 6.6 yard average he’s now the toast of Madison, Wisconsin. With the monster Offensive line in front of him that some say is the best in the land, the sky is the limit for this kid.
3) Will Grier, QB, West Virginia, Sr., 6-2, 215 = All Set to take the mantle as the next stud QB from the Big 12. The only question is can he stay healthy, and can he put up enough points to get his team into the Top 6-8 at least. He’s got the talent, the WR’s, and the OLine to protect him. The Mountaineers might be the most dangerous team nobody is looking at.
4) Jarred Stidham, Auburn, Jr., 6-3, 214 = Stidham is showing the leadership, and arm that had him as a top 5 QB talent in High school. Went to Baylor then JUCO all the way to Auburn. He could end up being not only the best QB in the Country, but the Heisman trophy winner. Especially if they can jump up and upset Alabama. Last year he had a shoulder injury that lasted most of the season and he still put up 3,158 and 18 Tds. He’s got all his WR’s back. Only time will tell if he can sprinkle some magic on the Tigers season.
5) Trace McSorley, QB, Penn State, Sr., 6-0, 200 = The Nittany Lions are now his team. Saquon Barkley is now a NY Giant, so all eyes will be on him. If he can have a season like last year and avoid those bumps in the road they had last year then he should firmly be in the hunt. He’s not that big, not that strong, not that this, not that that. What he is, is a play maker. He reminds me a lot of the old school quarterbacks who ran around people and make crazy throws that won big games. Penn State will have to be in the hunt for not only the Big 10, but the final four for him to really have a chance.
6) Shea Patterson, QB, Michigan, Jr., 6-2, 203 = A former number two overall HS QB prospect who has had a tough time. First he signs with Ole Miss and starts to look like what he was projected to be only for a Coaching scandal to destroy that program. Now he’s at Michigan, and if Jim Harbaugh is the QB Guru he’s been labeled to be then this is the perfect fit for him. Now this is my long-shot in the Heisman as he’s been sitting out his transfer year here. But I just have a feeling that he might not only turn his career around but might have Michigan back in the title hunt. Nothing gets you in the Heisman race like taking a big name National power into a National Title race. This kid has the arm, and legs to put up big numbers, only time will tell if he can fully integrate into the Harbaugh system.
7) Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma, Jr., 5-11, 190 = Much like the last Heisman winner from the Sooners, Murray isn’t all that big, and isn’t all that much to look at. He was drafted 9th overall by the Oakland A’s in pro baseball, and has said he won’t turn pro yet because he wants to spend his time concentrating on football. He hasn’t played much yet sitting behind Baker Mayfield after transferring from Texas A&M (Where his Dad played QB). I have only seen a little bit of it, an ability to make big plays much like Mayfield. If he can transfer that into a whole season then the race might be over. He reminds me a lot of Lamar Jackson with some Baker sprinkled on. He’s got a good arm, with crazy feet who can stop on a dime and take off for the end zone like a sprinter. If Murray can bring it the way Mayfield did he’s got a real chance.

Those who would have a chance with some luck and a Monster record breaking season

1) Ed Oliver, DT, Houston, Jr., 6-3, 290 - Outland Trophy winner as a sophomore. 1st team AA as a true freshman. He will have to really make some noise.
2) Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State, Jr., 6-4, 263 - Just like his brother he causes teams to adjust their game plan around him as he terrorizes their QB. Will have to have a lot of turnovers in big games. Will need to take over those big games on TV.
3) Gary Johnson, LB, Texas, Sr., 6-0, 225 - Didn’t start until the 9th game of the season after being a 1st AA in JUCO. Not many LB’s can claim to be the fastest man on the field, but he can with his some say sub 4.3 speed. He will have to get some great Td returns to even be mentioned.
4) Andraez “Greedy” Williams, LSU, So, 6-2, 185- As a freshman last year he took over the mantle as the next great Tiger cornerback. 6 interceptions and people are starting to fear his side. If he can have another great season along with some returns for tds he might have a Charles Woodson chance. He will need to set up a no-fly zone this season the way he ran one in high school.
